Spring is in full swing!

I bought myself a lil fitness tracker for my 40th birthday, and it's really helped to motivate me to quantify my spring gardening labor. I think this is the most workout I'm going to be getting per year, until the kids are in public school, so I like to see the watch sooth my inner ego with its frequent, "hey -- you're awesome/you were 160 minutes ~in the zone~ today/you hit your step goal/you hit your ~in the zone~ targets!" It really turns it all into a game, one I don't want to lose. We're all still these dumb apes, miming our way through it all on pathways toward rewards, atta-boys, and jobs well done.

In other news, we've done quite a bit of planting this spring. For the rear side-yard, we have many new berry bushes, many new native ground cover plants in a phase of life just before they realize we have a lot of free ground for them to cover, and a whole bevy of berry and nut bearing trees in the sapling phase. Wild ginger, wild blueberries, wild gooseberries, wild raspberries -- everything wild, in the hope that "wild," means more restorative in these really harsh and plastic days.
